UK Lottery
The UK National Lottery Commission is responsible for awarding a single licence to a commercial operator to run the National Lottery for the benefit of the nation. They do this by running international competitions for the licence and inviting consortia to bid for the opportunity.
They do everything they can to protect the National Lottery and the people who play it. They make independent checks to ensure that the Lottery is running as it should be according to the Licences.
The first draw took place on 19 November 1994.
Since launch, the National Lottery has raised over £22 billion for good causes.
Total National Lottery ticket sales for the year to 31 March 2008 was £4,966.3 million.
Since launch, the National Lottery has given over £29 billion in prizes and created over 2,000 millionaires.

The National Lottery has high standards of player protection. The National Lottery website, Sky Active and Play By Text services have been accredited by GamCare, the UK’s national centre for information, advice and practical help regarding the social impact of gambling.
